Final Blog - May 16, 2017

Statistics show that kids spend more time on their electronic devices rather than with their family This was how "Kids n' Crafts" came to be. The main goal we had was to get children to spend quality time with their parents through fun activities at the library every Saturday morning.

Although we only spent about 2-3 hours with the kids and parents, I do believe we made a difference in their lives. When we were nearing our last day, I realized that the parents spent more time with their kids with the activities rather than using their phones. That was exactly our goal, and we accomplished it.

My group and I are definitely going back during the summer (we already filled in forms). This time around I'd definitely want to read more to the kids, not just once every other week. Something I'd keep the same would be the physical activities we did after read aloud because those got the kids to calm down and not just run to every table they see.

As I continue to grow, I hope to prevent more children from excessively using their electronic devices. I hope to let them see that there many other fun activities they can do to keep from boredom.

  1. Good job! I believe that not only kids but all of us spend too much time on our electronic devices. Your project aimed to lessen that. Very creative indeed.

  5. You're right! Most kids learn how to use ipads before learning how to interact with other people. This is a great way to repair bonds between children and their parents.

  10. This is a really thoughtful idea for many children and their families. With the recent blow up of child-friendly technology, it is quite hard for parents and children to interact without that technology. Your project shows a lot of fun activities and experiences that families can enjoy, which is what made (and will make) you so successful. Overall, you and your group did a great job!

  18. This is a wonderful idea! Kids shouldn't be excessively using their electronic devices but instead do more fun and engaging activities. They should do things such as spend time with their families and create closer bonds like how this activity has helped. Splendid and a job well done.

  19. Speaking as someone who was brought up without that much use of electronic devices but now spends a little too much time on her phone, I love what you're doing here and that you made a difference in not just the kids' but the parents' attitudes towards crafts and social interaction! Well done and keep it up!

  23. I like your project and i think it's a great idea, helping kids spending more time with people instead of spending it on their phones. I don't know if you know it but human interaction is what makes us happy so it's awesome and it can only benefit them. I enjoyed reading about your project and you should try to do more like that.

  28. This is really amazing! As helpful as the advancement of technology is, it still has its drawbacks. The best thing about this project is that the parent and the child get to reconnect with each other without the hindrance of their gadgets. It's a great way to reestablish relationships and bonds. Good job!
