1. What have you accomplished?
- We did the first activity that we planned and I did my first read aloud.
2. What has gone wrong?
- Well, we didn't anticipate many kids to come so we only brought a small amount of origami paper. Additionally, we weren't expecting to do the read aloud ourselves, so we didn't have books prepared for it.
3. What challenges have you faced?
- It was a challenge trying to get the kids to lower their voices because they kept talking over us and some of them weren't paying attention. Teaching the kids origami was another challenge because it was so stressful since all the kids kept bombarding us with questions like "can you do this?" "can you do that?" and that wasn't what we were aiming for. We thought that the kids should have done it themselves, but there were so many of them that were confused so we ended up doing it for them. And I am telling you, that was really difficult because kids are very impatient and all they did was complain. So, it really takes a lot of patience for you to keep a smile on your face and help them.
4. What have you learned through the process?
- I learned how to do origami with the kids and to always have more than enough materials because you never really know how many kids will be there.
5. How have your skills improved over the past week?
- I definitely know how to be more patient with kids now and to smile at them even if you don't want on the inside. Being kind is one of the best qualities you can show when working with kids.
6. Are you on track for an on-time delivery?
- Yes, my team and I are on track for time delivery because we had activities prepared on time.
7. What adjustments need to be made on the timeline?
- We don't need to make any adjustments at the moment.
8. My next action is….
- We need to start planning our next activity.
1. What have you accomplished?
- Our accomplishments include: a finished lesson plan and a completion of peer commenting for the elevator pitches.
2. What has gone wrong?
- Fortunately, nothing has gone wrong this week. We got the lesson plan ready for the kids, now all we have to do is make sure we actually get the kids to want to do the activities.
3. What challenges have you faced?
- My group and I are low on money at the moment so we had trouble trying to buy the supplies we needed for the activities. Luckily, the library already had most of them so we only had to buy a few. Another challenged we faced was trying to think of the activities we could have the kids do.
4. What have you learned through the process?
- I learned that when you're planning activities for a variety of kids, you really need to think about what some kids can and can't do. You can't just say "oh yeah okay let's do this," because a lot of the kids are still learning to make things without making a mess and there are some who are limited to things they can do. You really need to make sure that all the kids can participate in the activities you have planned.
5. How have your skills improved over the past week?
- I know how to make an effective lesson plan and take many factors into account (i.e. money, time, materials, etc).
6. Are you on track for an on-time delivery?
- Yes, my team and I are on track for time delivery because our mentor needed our lesson plan by Wednesday and we managed to turn it in on time.
7. What adjustments need to be made on the timeline?
- We need to adjust the schedule again because my team and I aren't in charge of the movie that'll be showing at 1pm-2pm.
8. My next action is….
- We are finally going to get to engage with the kids through the activities that MY team has planned, not anyone else's own. I'm quite excited to see how this goes. Hopefully the kids have fun.
1. What have you accomplished?
- Our accomplishments include: a turned in letter of request, first experience of a read aloud, and engagement with the kids.
2. What has gone wrong?
- We went to the library on Saturday, March 11, and we didn't have activities prepared so we couldn't do much with the kids except color and read to them.
3. What challenges have you faced?
- Transportation is still a problem. I had to ride taxi to the library and back home because there was no one I could ride with. Engaging with the kids is also a challenge due to the fact that they lose interest quickly. So you always have to keep them occupied.
4. What have you learned through the process?
- I learned that kids are very talkative. I also learned that we can't expect to have a certain amount of kids each Saturday because it varies every week. We can either have a lot or a little of the kids coming in.
5. How have your skills improved over the past week?
- I know how to engage with little kids better. I found out that you should never be boring during a read aloud or the kids will not pay attention. You always have to pause and ask questions during the story.
6. Are you on track for an on-time delivery?
- We are still partially on track for the on-time delivery because we got to the library on time even if we had transportation problems. However, we didn't have activities prepared for the kids.
7. What adjustments need to be made on the timeline?
- We need to remove the part where we said we were going to put up flyers because we have no time for that.
8. My next action is….
- My group and I are going to make activities and start preparing supplies for the arts and crafts activity we're going to do.
1. What have you accomplished?
- Our accomplishments include: a finalized schedule, a mentor assigned, and the proposal turned in early.
2. What has gone wrong?
- Well, from the start, my group and I were planning to do this project with just the three of us, but that wasn't the case. Last Saturday, Audrey went to Joeten Kiyu Library to check and tell our mentor some updates. In the process, she learned that Americorp is doing the exact same thing we wanted to do. So, now, we have to collaborate with Americorp and that kinda brings us down because we really wanted this project to be ours.
3. What challenges have you faced?
- Transportation and family is a huge problem. My group and I plan to go to the library every Saturday, but family gets in the way a lot. Another problem is that both my parents have work on Saturday so no one else can take care of my sisters. I would bring them to the library with me, but I don't have the transportation to do so. I'm really hoping I figure something out.
4. What have you learned through the process?
- This project is not going to be as easy as I thought it would be and my group and I can expect to run into some bumps on the road. Plans don't always work out and sometimes you have to make some adjustments.
5. How have your skills improved over the past week?
- I learned how to write a proposal, make adjustments, communicate and collaborate with peers, and expect the unexpected.
6. Are you on track for an on-time delivery?
- We are partially on track for the on-time delivery because we've finished most of the assignments (i.e. proposal) that was due around last week, but unfortunately we miss one and that was the letter of request.
7. What adjustments need to be made on the timeline?
- We need to fix up the schedule because we have a finalized one.
8. My next action is….
- My group and I are going to the library this Saturday to submit the letter of request and work with the kids for the first time. We also need to revise the proposal.
